Cardiff has long been known as a great place for entertainment, with world class theatres, sporting venues and a vibrant music scene. This exhibition invites you to step back in time and celebrate leisure in Cardiff from the Victorian era to the present day.

Bringing together objects and stories from the museum’s collection, including a newly restored 4ft high scale model of the enormous javelin thrower that stood atop Howell’s department store when Cardiff hosted the 1958 Empire and Commonwealth Games.

The exhibition highlights some of Cardiff’s pubs and venues, including a lamp that used to hang above the entrance to the Kings Cross, a city centre pub that attracted the LGBTQ+ community from 1970 until its closure in 2010.

Also on display is an original poster and artwork from the classic children’s TV show SuperTed, which is certain to take many visitors on a nostalgic trip down memory lane. The show which featured the iconic superhero teddy bear was popular in the 1980s and was created by an animation team in Cardiff.

Other exhibits include the original lettering from the Globe Cinema on Albany Road, Roath, and more memorabilia from the 1958 Games.
